Markets in Everything: Cash for Hair, Part 2

From the New York Times last week, an article about harvesting the best hair in the world: naturally blond hair in Russia, which is a "golden treasure" for the global beauty industry.  The going rate for "a 16-inch braid, the shortest length a buyer will consider, fetches about $50."

This "borrowed" hair is actually quite common among women of African descent who have short and kinky hair.18-inch Remy hair, as it is known, can go for as much as $140 per section.

We collect cut hair from the barbershops and put it around the garden. Don't know if it actually works, but the theory is that critters smell humans and stay away.

Wow! If I were a critter I'd stay away. Imagine smelling 5,000 people in your garden but not seeing anyone.

Can't you tell if it's working by whether or not critters stay away?
